Reach out through my contact form and I will get back to you ASAP.
I will give you an estimate for the work, if you are happy with this I will prepare you a detailed quote.
A 50% deposit is collected.
We can then discuss fabric options- I will send you five appropriate samples/resources and suggestions to browse.
Once fabric is confirmed we arrange a date for the job to begin/furniture to be delivered.
Lead time is 4-6weeks, depending on the specified job.

Fabric for upholstery must be strong enough to withstand the upholstery process and give longevity to your project. A Martindale count gives an indication of this and should be +25000 for general upholstery.
Upholstery fabric must also meet current Fire Regulations. This means it must be over 75% natural materials or be FR rated.
Roman blinds, curtains and scatter cushions do not need to meet these standards making a wide range of fabrics suitable.
I work with a wide range of suppliers and have up to date knowledge of trends, materials, fibres and suitability. I never try to ‘upsell’ and will only recommend fabrics I believe meet your needs.
Whilst I cannot offer the sale prices or discounts that third party suppliers may be able to offer, you will know your fabric comes directly from the supplier, meets fire regulations and will be suitable for the job. I only order and charge you for the exact quantity of fabric required based on the measurements of your project-this means there will be correct pattern matching and quality will be checked.

Yes, however, if supplying your own fabric it is your responsibility to ensure that it is suitable for the job and adheres to the UK Fire Safety Regulations. Any issues with the fabric must be identified and dealt with by the client.
Please note that a 20% cutting fee will be applied when handling materials not supplied by S Douglas Studio. This covers the additional studio admin incurred.
Fabric must be delivered with the furniture and cannot arrive separately.

Every project is different so prices will vary. As a guide, to recover a small armchair prices start from £550 + fabric (additional costs may be added for foam / filling replacement). Dining chairs start from £75 + fabric, and small sofas from £950 + fabric.
Upholstery fabric costs from £30 per meter upwards.
It may be surprising that having an item reupholstered is not cheaper than buying new. Unfortunately a lot of current furniture is not built to last or made from quality materials.
Having an item upholstered means only quality materials and craftsmanship go into creating your unique item.

Pricing is based on project type and complexity. I offer an initial estimate normally using photos, measurements and any information provided by you.
If you decide to proceed I will provide a transparent quote with any other potential materials and costs listed.
Fabric costs are not included as the price per meter varies greatly. Whilst I do not offer sale or discounted fabrics, you will have the peace of mind knowing your fabric is suitable for the job and provided by the supplier directly. Accurate measuring, pattern planning, quality control, communication and delivery is taken care of.
If there are any unexpected issues identified once the furniture is stripped down I will always contact you and agree a suitable way to proceed.

I work from a home studio in Streatham Hill. There is residential parking and so you can deliver and collect directly from me.
Alternatively, for larger items, I can arrange a man and van to quote delivery for you.
For blinds and smaller items postage or a courier can be arranged.

Yes please!
Opting to upholster rather than to replace is already a great sustainable option. In the UK over 22 million pieces of furniture are thrown away annually, most of this ends up in landfill.
Further to this I can offer sustainable and natural options for your furniture, reducing ecological impact and the introduction of forever chemicals into your home.
Please mention you are interested in natural options when getting in contact and I will direct your project on this path.
